About Mary

Mary is one of the "Girls" benchmark workouts. It follows Cindy's 5-10-15 structure but swaps each movement for a much harder gymnastics skill: handstand push-ups, pistols, and three times the pull-ups.

Because every movement is a skill, Mary tests gymnastics capacity more than anything else. Many experienced athletes still scale at least one movement.

Tips for Mary

  • Break the handstand push-ups into small sets from the first round, such as 3 and 2.
  • Alternate legs on the pistols every rep. If you're scaling, hold a post or band lightly for balance.
  • The pull-ups add up to a lot of volume. Use short, quick sets.
